The original design was for an 18"x18"x2" (450mm x 450mm x
50mm) base. The smallest practical piece of polystyrene available from the local
DIY shop was 48"x18"x2" (1200mm x 450mm x 2mm). A desire to make
the staircase more impressive quickly double the height of the base to 4"
and from there it seemed simplest to just cut the polystyrene in half and glue
the two bits together. The extra 6" (150mm) width saved me having to store,
yet another, polystyrene off-cut, as well as adding being additional gaming
space to manoeuvre units within the courtyard of the finished temple.

This
is about as far as I managed to get by the convention deadline. The massive
increase in the size of the staircase meant that the original Fu Dogs were going
to look a little dwarfed, so at the last minute I rushed out and bought some new
ones better suited to the new scale. I had hoped to paint them that day, but it
just didn't work out.
